Getting started

Yantra works out of the box: with no key, chat and summaries run on-device with Apple Intelligence (on supported iPhones). For larger models, bring your own key — there’s no subscription, and your notes stay on your device.

1. Optionally get an API key from Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google AI Studio (Gemini). API keys bill separately from chat subscriptions — a Claude or ChatGPT plan does not include API access.
2. Open Yantra → Settings, pick the Provider and model, and paste your key. Tap Test connection to confirm it works.
3. Optionally add a Deepgram key (speaker-labeled meetings, higher-accuracy voice) or a Sarvamkey (Hindi/Indic speech & translation).

What runs where

Capture, transcription, embeddings, search, and calendar all run on-device and free. Chat with your notes, link summaries, image descriptions, meeting notes, and the digest use the model you picked: on-device Apple Intelligence, optional Apple Private Cloud Compute, or your own Anthropic, OpenAI, or Gemini key, called directly from your device.

New in 2.0

• Apple Watch. Tap the mic or write a text note on your Watch; it lands in Yantra on your iPhone. Add the Yantra complication to start recording from your watch face.
• Digest.A daily or weekly recap of what you saved and what’s due, on the Notes tab and as a widget. Turn on the notification in Settings → Digest.
• Siri, Spotlight & Control Center. Find notes in Spotlight, ask Siri about your notes, and start a recording from Control Center or the Action Button.
• Import & share. Share PDFs, images, links, text, and audio into Yantra from any app, or use Capture → Import a file.
• Markdown export for Obsidian and other apps.

Common questions

“Test connection” says 401. The key was rejected — re-check it in Settings, and make sure that provider account has API credits or billing set up.

“On-device” isn’t available. On-device AI needs an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on in iOS Settings. Otherwise, add a provider key.

Watch notes aren’t arriving.Open Yantra on your iPhone once. Notes recorded while the iPhone is out of range wait on the Watch and send when it’s back.

Voice notes aren’t transcribing. Make sure Microphone and Speech Recognition are enabled in iOS Settings → Yantra.

My calendar / Google Calendar isn’t showing. Yantra shows only the accounts you’ve added to iOS Settings → Calendar → Accounts. Add your Google account there, then pick it in Yantra → Settings → Calendar.

Backing up. Settings → Export all notes saves everything (including audio and images) to one file you can keep in Files or iCloud Drive and restore later. You can also export notes as Markdown.
